Samdol

Sammy was handed into Summer Hill Village Vet after being found wandering the streets.

He presented to the clinic with gash wounds to his face, weak rear legs and in a skinny condition. After getting in contact with his owners, Summer Hill advised he was in need of veterinary treatment for his skin, eyes and ears. The next day he left the clinic with an eye ointment and treatment plan. Only a couple of weeks later, Sammy presented to the clinic again, this second time by a teenager being instructed over the phone. Sammy had been found after being left alone for a week; his owner was now incarcerated and could no longer look after him.

The team at Summer Hill phoned us immediately.

However, as the owner wasn’t present, we were unable to take him in. Instead, the RSPCA picked him up.

Whilst Sammy was at the vet, he proved to have the sweetest, calmest and most loving temperament. Aside from the occasional flinch when he was hugged, suggesting previous abuse, he followed the nurses around like a shadow, lying at their feet whilst they worked.

Sammy had an extensive list of medical issues.

We knew this would decide his fate at the pound, so with the support of Summer Hill, we fought for a month to bring him into the care of one of our foster homes.

He came into care very skinny and timid, needing veterinary work on his teeth, ears, eyes, legs and skin. His foster carer, with the support of Maggie’s and Summer Hill Village Vet, spent months nursing Sammy back to full health. He quickly became the most loved dog on the street, incredibly gentle with everyone he met (even when children tried to play ‘horsie’ with him). He would nudge and push against you – not giving anyone a choice not to love him! Sammy had his fair share of trauma, but after finally receiving all the love and care he deserves, found his perfect forever home after 7 months in our care.

A few words from Maddie, his foster carer.

“Sam came into my life at a very difficult time. The cliché ‘he rescued me’ could not be truer in his case. I was dealing with losing my dad overseas to COVID, unable to fly back home.”

“To say he became my best friend and rock is an understatement.”

“I couldn’t be more grateful to have been a part of Sammy’s journey and with the home he ended up in.”
