Autumn

We received a call from a resident in a housing commission in Sydney’s West. A cat had recently given birth to her second litter of kittens.

The previous litter had been cruelly killed by an unknown person and the resident wanted to ensure that this litter didn't meet the same gruesome fate.

We immediately brought Autumn and her five kittens into care, where she safely nursed them until they were ready for adoption.

All five kittens found their forever homes, however, Autumn’s distress from her traumatic experience with humans in the past, left her not wanting anything to do with them.

She moved to a new carer who spent months working with Autumn’s confidence with sight, touch and sounds.

Month by month she would gain more and more confidence, eventually welcoming pats and play interactions.

Despite being a young cat, her poor diet on the streets meant she was in desperate need of dental work, having 5 teeth removed to feel pain-free.

Autumn’s transformation, physical and emotional, was proof of her resilience and strength, winning over the hearts of her foster carers. After 8 months in care, they knew Autumn had found the nurturing home she deserved in them, and finalised her adoption.

A few words from Lesley, her foster carer and now, forever home.

“When Autumn first came to me she was so scared and unable to be touched.”

“We worked really hard to show her that people could be good and she slowly opened up.”

“She is now a happy, confident cat that follows us around the house and demands food and pats – especially while I'm working from home which is quite distracting in the best possible way!”
